Day 1
Selfoss – Nýidalur
Start of the Adventure
Our exciting journey begins in the Ride With Locals headquarters at Selfoss. We head out North, driving on tarmac for the first 40-50 kilometers. We enter the wilderness as the mountains greet us with impeccable views. Our first stop is at a waterfall named Hjálparfoss, a beautiful place to catch our breaths. Then we will drive a wonderful pathway through the Gjáin to Iceland‘s second highest waterfall named Háifoss, a grand display indeed. We push the bikes faster after as we have one more majestic waterfall to see this day, a fun waterfall with a fun name: Dynkur. As we press through the final chapter of the day we press our bikes to go even faster to signal our enjoyment to the land. We relax deeply as we then spend the night in a cozy mountain cabin in Nýidalur, a remote place in the middle of nowhere, with a smile from ear to ear we fall into deep sleep surrounded by the Icelandic nothingness.
Trip highlights:

- Hjálparfoss
- Gjáin
- Háifoss
- Dynkur
- Nýidalur Mountain Hut
Day 2
Nýidalur – Mývatn
Into the Wilderness
We fill our bellies with nutrition and head out into the wilderness. We are truly in no-mans-land here as we enter Ódáðahraun, Iceland‘s largest lava field, a staggering 4400 km², a combination of many independent volcanic ruptures that now create this vast lava field. It‘s 70 times the size of Manhattan and feels unreal in its dark and timeless demise. The lava fields differ in ages and means of how they were formed, some are barely ten years old while others are ten thousand years old. As ve venture further into Ódáðahraun we will experience its mountains, Herðubreið, Upptyppingar og Dyngjufjöll. Truly remarkable mountains that have risen from the fires below. As we bombard further north we exit the unhabited no-mans-land to find a warm welcome at a luxurious hotel at Mývatn, a tranquil but immersively large lake that certainly soothes our minds as we drift into sleep.
Trip highlights:
- Ódáðahraun
- Skjálfandafljót
- Grænavatn
- Mývatn
Day 3
Mývatn – Mývatn
The Land of the enduro Gods
Accoding to legends, the Enduro god lives in Iceland and today we set out to meet him. His domain is Þeystireykir. This area is the paradise of the enduro-bike and you‘ll soon understand why the enduro god made this his home. This day will surprise any biker with joy and excitement as it we track through Iceland‘s northernmost volcanic-area. After our fun and games with the god of enduro we soak our selves in Jarðböðin á Mývatni, perfectly attuned hot pools with geothermal water straight from the source. The trick of the trait here is to soak yourselves completely in the hot waters and deeply relax every muscle in your body. We then head re-engergized to our hotel at Mývatn for an entertaining evening-dinner.
Trip highlights:
- Mývatn
- Þeystireykir

Day 4
Mývatn – Dreki
Back to the mountains
From the lake Mývatn we venture through a beautiful path to another lake named Grænavatn. From Grænavatn a precious and delightful path leads us onto a very old journeyors path named Dyngjufjallaleið. If you‘ll ever feel like you are riding on the moon, this path will be it. Black deserts and black lava and our black rubbers riding into the abyss together. We find our way out of the moon‘s magical landscape through a recently opened path which has been closed to everyone for years on years. This exciting path takes us to Askja, the dragon‘s den as you will witness in person. A remarkable crater with supernatural water that propels our imagination into the world of dragons and heroes and make no mistake, we are the riders of the moon, and today, we are the heroes. Legend even says that if you jump into Askja, you will never be the same. Try, if you dare!

Day 5

Some Things Must Come As a Surprise
Feeling refreshed, vigourous and ready to ride after a refreshing sleep in our mountain cabin we head out into an ocean of black sands. We push our bikes to the limit if we dare, as we burn through the vastness of the thick black sands. The paths trough the black sands are exhilirating as we lose track of time and speed as we simply gust on, fast and furious. As the sands end a new dimension begins, Holuhraun, a majestic place that is known for its infinite hiding places. We travel through it with the uncanny feeling that we are being watched by supernatural beings but we are heroes and we ride on smiling with a deep level of confidence. We track ourselves to a an old highlanders pathway named Flæðurnar. This path will take us to 1200m altitude. We begin our accent up this exciting pathway and the bikes love the work. The feeling we experience at 1200 meters driving on our motorbikes is surreal and the beauty is bewildering. We then take with us the tranquility of the mountains, the magic of the sands and the mystery of the lava fields as we come back to our mountain cabin for a mouth-watering barbeque together.

- Gæsavötn

Beauty of the South
As all adventures come to an end, ours will as well, but not before we blast back to our hometown. The paths we take on this last day are our favorite enduro pathways of the Southern Highlands and you‘ll understand why as you kick the bikes from gear to gear as you blast through them. Surrounded by the highlands and engulfed in the memories we have made together. This day will be catered to your needs and filled with warm goodbyes as we will have bonded through our expedition. Riding together through the secret paths of Icelandic nature as we visit surreal places together is just something that is both unforgettable and very valuable. By the gods and goddesses of Enduro may we the heroes of this journey be blessed!
