The Route
The Land of Volcanoes
Set off from Hella and ride up toward the mighty Mt. Hekla, with stops at some of Iceland’s most breathtaking spots along the way — the tumbling Hjálparfoss, the towering Háifoss, and the wild Veiðivötn lake area. The route climbs through scenic highlands to the Jökulheimar mountain hut, where the day ends with a dinner of fresh Icelandic fish or steak, surrounded by the raw natural beauty that defines this part of the country.
In Between Glaciers
Discover the breathtaking Fjallabak region — a land of rugged mountains and deep valleys that feels straight out of a Lord of the Rings story. You’ll explore the geothermal wonders and natural hot pools of Landmannalaugar, then ride on toward the Tungnaá River with sweeping views of Vatnajökull, Iceland’s largest glacier, and the remote Langisjór lake. The day takes in the mighty Eldgjá volcanic fissure, a canyon up to 150 metres deep, carved during one of the largest eruptions in Iceland’s history in the year 934.
Fjallabak Region
The final day follows the magnificent Öldufellsleið mountain road — a rare route that few riders ever get to experience. It links Skaftártungur and Rangárvellir, opening up views of the Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull glaciers. You’ll pass the striking Mælifell volcano and cross the black desert before reaching the Markarfljótsgljúfur canyon, a true wonder of nature, and the desolate Emstrur landscape on the way back to Hella.
