4 Days Iceland Highlands Motorcycle Adventure

Get ready for an unforgettable first day on our 4-day motorcycle adventure through Iceland’s breathtaking landscapes. After being picked up from your Reykjavík hotel, we hit the road and head into the mountains toward Þórisvatn, Iceland’s largest lake. Along the way we explore stunning waterfalls, including the majestic Hjálparfoss and the impressive Háifoss, the second-highest waterfall in Iceland. But that’s just the beginning — the real highlight is the untouched highland territory we cross on the way to the Jökulheimar mountain hut, where the day ends with a dinner of freshly caught Icelandic fish or steak, surrounded by the serene beauty of the highlands.

Day two begins at Jökulheimar and carries you through the heart of the highlands, riding across the magnificent Veiðivatnahraun lava field. The area around the Veiðivötn lakes is a true highland oasis, home to some of the best brown trout and arctic char fishing in Iceland. Further along, you’ll come face to face with Mt. Hekla — one of the country’s most active volcanoes, once known as “the Gateway to Hell.” The route also passes through the remarkable Eldgjá volcanic fissure and the striking black desert that surrounds it, before reaching the Rjúpnavellir mountain hut for a well-earned night’s rest.

Prepare to be wowed by nature’s colours on day three. You’ll start in the Fjallabak region, named for the rugged mountains and deep valleys that make it feel like something out of a Lord of the Rings story. From there we make our way to the hot pools at Landmannalaugar, one of the many incredible expressions of geothermal activity in the area. After a refreshing dip, we head toward the Tungnaá River, taking in views of Vatnajökull — Iceland’s largest glacier — and the beautiful Langisjór lake. Along the way we pass through the Eldgjá volcanic fissure, a canyon roughly 60 km long, up to 600 metres wide and 150 metres deep, formed during one of the largest volcanic eruptions in Icelandic history, in the year 934. The day ends at one of the most beautiful mountain huts in Iceland.

As our 4-day adventure nears its end, a few incredible surprises are still in store. You’ll ride the remarkable Öldufellsleið mountain road, an uncommon route that treats you to stunning views of two of Iceland’s most famous glaciers, Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull. Riding behind Mýrdalsjökull, we cross the famous black desert and catch sight of Mælifell, one of Iceland’s most beautiful volcanoes. The journey continues to the Markarfljótsgljúfur canyon, a true natural wonder, before heading back to Hella through the striking, desolate Emstrur area. With a support vehicle and all the necessary equipment included, all you have to do is show up and ride.
